YFPA Gala 2015: What is your revolution?
By Lydia Neff
SAN FRANCISCO – Once again, the Young Filipino Professionals Association in San Francisco Bay Area will host an annual gala to raise funds for its scholarship progRam. The gala will be on February 22 at 5:30 p.m. at Fort McKinley restaurant.
The 13-yar-old YFPA’s scholarship program provides financial assistance to deserving graduating high school students who have demonstrated leadership skills and have decided to pursue higher education.
The scholarship program was designed for local San Francisco Bay Area high school graduating students selected based on academic achievement, career goals and specific application metrics set by YFPA.
The evening’s theme will focus on “revolution” from the individual’s point of view and how it relates to careers, community and society. It will shed light on how different individuals from different walks of life have shaken up the existing realities of Fil-Am’s in the Bay Area.
This event is inspired by the 29th anniversary of People Power Revolution in the Philippines where a huge movement was initiated for social change.
Almost 30 years ago, what became known as the People Power Revolution led to the departure of longtime dictator, Ferdinand Marcos. The People Power Revolution made international headlines that has since been an inspiration to other civil resistance movements worldwide.
YFPA will celebrate notable “firsts” in the Filipino community. From the first Filipino State Assemblyman Rob Bonta to the first Filipina elected to San Francisco public office Rebecca Delgado-Rottman to the first Filipino BART police officer Gary Cagaanan.
Dinner will be served along with a line up of entertainment including emcee Alan Manalo, ukulele artist Ukulenny, Schematic Band and Jericho Rose. There will be a cash bar.
