PAE Live: Pastiche!

(July, 2015 – Los Angeles, CA.)  The worlds of classical music and Philippine kundimans harmoniously collide in a special evening of music that presents Philippine-born  international pianist Rudolf Pelaez Golez in concert.  “Pastiche: An Evening of Classics and Kundimans” features Golez on the instrument that made him the sole prizewinner at the First ASEAN Chopin International Piano Competition, along with concert cellist prodigy Matthew John Ignacio and the gentlemen of Prime Note Ensemble, the chorale group formed in Saudi Arabia who now call the U.S. their home.

Golez is one of the Philippines’ youngest piano virtuosos today.  He was a featured soloist at the Cultural Center of the Philippines’ Filipino Young Artists Series and has played with the Philippine Philharmonic Orchestra and the Manila Symphony Orchestra.  His solo concerts feature a rich and varied repertoire of classical and contemporary periods in piano literature.  Currently, Golez serves as the Vice-President for External and Cultural Affairs of Liceo de Cagayan University and is on the faculties of  both the Philippine Women’s University and Cebu Normal University.

Joining Golez as special guests are Matthew John Ignacio, the prodigy cellist who is also proficient on the piano and accordion, who is a student at the Colburn School, one of the most prestigious conservatories for music as well as the performing arts in the nation. Most recently, Ignacio performed as a special guest of Andrea Morricone, the award winning Italian composer, at Morricone’s concert at the Broad Theater.  Ignacio has performed in concert along with his fellow students and colleagues in many concerts. Also part of the evening’s program is Prime Note Ensemble, the chorale group established in Saudi Arabia who have performed across the world and in the U.S. in many choir competitions.  They have been guests at Carnegie Hall and have also performed at the famed Dorothy Chandler Pavilion Music Center.

The night’s repertoire will include both classical pieces – Beethoven, Mozart, etc. – as well as renditions of traditional and  contemporary “kundimans” (Filipino love songs). “It’s an honor to have Rudolf Golez come to perform in Los Angeles,” said Executive Producer Mercedes Martin. “I knew the first time I heard him play, that I just had to share his talent with the ‘kababayans’ here in Los Angeles.”  Nimfa A. Bemis, the show’s producer exclaimed “I’m very excited to present these artists  and I cannot wait to see what Rudolf and Matthew are going to present when they perform together and to hear the songs that PNE and Rudolf will be serenading the audience!”

The concert doubles as a fundraiser for Search to Involve Pilipino Americans (S.I.P.A.), one of Los Angeles’ oldest community based organizations that delivers direct social services to the Filipino-American community living in Historic Filipinotown and in Los Angeles.  Tickets are $25.00 (or $35.00 which includes a post-concert reception) and are available at WWW.TIX.COM.
