Award-winning Hollywood photojournalist Ruben V. Nepales releases coffee table book of his photos of stars

Award-winning Hollywood photojournalist Ruben V. Nepales has released “Through a Writer’s Lens,” a stunning coffee table book of more than 1,000 photos of stars that he took in almost two decades.

“Through a Writer’s Lens,” a 260-page hardbound compilation of Nepales’ often candid, refreshing snapshots of the Hollywood stars he has interviewed, is a beautiful 12” x 14” book that is bound to be a collector’s item.

Based in Los Angeles, Nepales won honors from the National Entertainment Journalism Awards and the Southern California Journalism Awards, both presented by the Los Angeles Press Club.

Variety editor Tim Gray praised “Through a Writer’s Lens”: “Ruben Nepales is smart, has great taste, and observes things that most people overlook. These qualities make him a good photojournalist and they make this book so great.”

Rito Asilo, entertainment editor of the Philippine Daily Inquirer, where Nepales’ popular column, “Only IN Hollywood,” ran for 15 years, also hailed “Through a Writer’s Lens”: “It is with great pleasure that I welcome Ruben’s coffee table book, a visual tome of sorts, featuring stellar Hollywood talents he interviewed over the years, from Meryl Streep and Tom Cruise to Al Pacino and Steven Spielberg…If you read his interviews often enough (as you should), you’ll soon realize that one is truly made more satisfying by the other. Suffice it to say that his words go hand in hand with his photographs.”

Bessie Badilla, the book’s publisher, cited why she encouraged Nepales to share his photos of stars, many of which appeared in his column. But majority of the photos featured in the special book are published for the first time.

“When I saw Ruben’s photos for his column on the Philippine Daily Inquirer, they made me want to read his latest column right away,” Badilla said. “His photos made me curious. They have the ability to make you want to ‘get to know’ more the celebrities that he features.”

The publisher added, “It was Ruben’s photo of Sarah Jessica Parker that got me thinking he has a special talent! It was the best photograph of Ms. Parker I’ve ever seen. Ruben has the eye for capturing his subject’s best angle and he also has perfect timing.

“During one of our dinners in New York with his wife Janet, I asked Ruben if I could publish a coffee table book of his photographs that he’s been taking for many years. I’m so happy he agreed because this collaboration was a joy to make and will be equally enjoyable to all the book’s readers.”

Each of the 200-plus top and beloved talents, from Angelina Jolie, Oprah Winfrey, Sandra Oh, Jennifer Lopez, Kristen Stewart, Darren Criss to Robert Pattinson, included in the tome has an interesting, memorable quote culled from the photojournalist’s columns of these stars. Some of the quotes were also culled from Nepales’ monthly Hollywood feature on Smile Magazine, Cebu Pacific Air’s inflight magazine.

Badilla also said, “ ‘Through a Writer’s Lens’ will give readers an intimate date with each of the more than 200 talents and celebrities featured in the book. Readers will enjoy many never-before-seen candid shots of their favorite stars while reading these stars’ quotes that give you personal insights on their lives, struggles, pain, fame, triumphs and loves.”

“Through a Writer’s Lens” is Nepales’ second book, following his 2012 book, “My Filipino Connection: The Philippines in Hollywood,” which won in the print journalism – book category of the Migration Advocacy and Media Awards presented by the Office of the President of the Philippines’ Commission on Filipinos Overseas.

Nepales is the first Filipino to be elected to membership in the Hollywood Foreign Press Association (HFPA), the association of international journalists which votes on and presents the Golden Globe Awards. Nepales served for many years as a board member of the HFPA, which is one of the biggest philanthropic organizations in Hollywood (it has donated more than $44 million in the past 31 years to entertainment-related charities, scholarships and grants).

In 2012, Nepales became the first Filipino to be elected as chairman of the board of the HFPA. In June 2019, the photojournalist was elected executive secretary of the HFPA. He was the managing editor of a special anniversary commemorative book, “Hollywood Foreign Press Association: A History (75 Years of the Golden Globe Awards).”

In August, Rappler, the Philippines’ leading news website, became the exciting new home of Nepales’ beloved column, “Only IN Hollywood.”

The University of Santo Tomas (Manila) alumnus also serves on the board of directors of the Filipino American Symphony Orchestra (FASO), the only Filipino symphony orchestra outside of the Philippines.

Special, limited edition hardbound copies of “Through a Writer’s Lens” are available at $125 plus $10 for shipping and handling; in the Philippines, ₱6,000 plus ₱200 for shipping and handling. To order, send a message to: https://www.facebook.com/throughawriterslens/.

with Tia Carrere (Hollywood Triple Threat).

(May 07, 2017) While others choose to work outside home, few choose to do the opposite. Out of the few, some do it for convenience, some do it to balance work and family relationship, but someone just make the most out of it – started conquering the world and inspiring hundreds of thousands of people in the comfort of home.

He was born in Pangasinan, and as a teenager, leaving his hometown for United States was quite easy, with his dreams in mind and heart. He had a dream of making it into Hollywood. Growing up, he always knew he had to do something to fulfill it. He believed and continuously believe in every posibility and so he lived and is still living these dreams.

Graduating from Business Management in University of Phoenix was just the beginning of an amazing journey. When he moved to Los Angeles, it was as if the world calls out his name, turning his dreams into an overwhelming reality.

From being a Recording Artist to a Publicist, a PR expert, an Event Organizer/Producer, a Red Carpet reporter in Hollywood and Fashion runways, to being the Social Media Reporter of the Year (2016) awarded by Filipino American Press Club of California.

He has indeed mastered the art of persistency and passion that never fail to get him through wonderful doors and paths, all on the way to the promise of his dreams.

In an interview, he said it took him a while to notice that he is already living his dreams. When asked about his thoughts about leaving Pangasinan as a teenager, he said “I have been always fascinated with Hollywood growing-up, and when I moved to Los Angeles, I got to live the dream, I would always remember my first red carpet in Hollywood.”

And it indeed just doesn’t stop there. In April, 2014, he tried to come up with something that has never been done before. That’s when the first ever America’s First Fil-Am Hollywood Entertainment Podcasting Show — Blogtalk with MJ Racadio.

He’s now celebrating three years of wonderful episodes married into the power of social media. He said “my vision is clear, and that is to empower and inspire one person at a time, Filipino and Fil-Americans alike through my platform which is the Blogtalk.”

When asked about some of the most memorable interviews during the first season of the show, he would highlight some of the most influencial Fil-Am personalities who have made their marks inn Hollywood. To name some we have Hollywood writers Janet and Ruben Nepales. He even recalled the moment when he got invited by the power couple to Hollywood, and he said “Is this happening?” Because according to him, they usually interview the biggest stars in the planet. Some of the notable interviews he had for the show include 2015 Ms. Universe Pia Wurtzbach, the famous Filipino Balladeer and the first ever Filipino to win WCOPA world grand champion title Jed Madela, to matinee idols Alden Richards and Dennis Trillo.

He never fails to acknowledge the people behind the show’s continuous success. “I thank God for the knowledge he has given me, my Executive Producer Mariebeth Racadio for providing me a never ending support, and of course, my family, my followers, and my friends. Because without them, Blogtalk would not be possible.”

“It’s been a long 3-year journey. I am going to continue as long as I can find someone whom I think is capable of inspiring others. I will try my very best to invite important people for an interview in Blogtalk. As long as I have the resources, and the ability to do it, I will do it, and I will do it for the rest of my life,” he said.

BECCA GODINEZ SET TO DEBUT AT CATALINA JAZZ CLUB

BECCA GODINEZ SET TO DEBUT AT

CATALINA JAZZ CLUB

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

CONTACT: TED BENITO (E:tedibenito@gmail.com)

 Becca Godinez (Singer/Songwriter, Actress,Producer/Director)

(Los Angeles, May 04, 2017) – Becca Godinez – actress, singer/songwriter, producer/director – makes a much anticipated return to the concert stage with “Me, Myself & Music” on Saturday, May 20 in Hollywood. The intimate show, which highlights songs that have influenced the artist through the years, serves as Becca’s one-woman debut at the legendary Catalina Jazz Club. While Becca has performed in numerous musical concerts in recent years (“Apl.de.ap Takes You to the Philippines” at the Hollywood Bowl and  “Jazzmopolitan” at the Ford Amphitheater, to name a few), the Catalina engagement marks the first time in over seven years she will take the microphone as a solo artist.

“After 2009, I performed with other artists – perhaps because it was safer that way,” muses Becca.  “I was returning to the concert stage after an absence and not having to singularly carry a show was easier.  Sharing an act allowed me the chance to stretch, to rediscover what I could do stylistically and vocally and I began to grow into the entertainer that I wanted to be. Appearing in a solo concert on that [Catalina] stage will be a feather on my cap, for sure.  I like being close to the audience – to reach out and Catalina is the perfect venue for that.”

“Me, Myself & Music” will present an eclectic mix of songs and musical genres covering everything from Brazilian jazz, to contemporary pop to acapella music. There will even be some original music that Becca will be presenting for the first time. “The audience will hear my voice – my choice of songs – the kind of music that I have loved – music that has influenced my song choices and styles.  There will be no frills – just five musicians and me.  I will be able to show all facets of my music and all the crazy sides of me.”

A portion of the concert proceeds will benefit two needy charities that Becca is personally involved with – Children’s Hospital Los Angeles (CHLA) (introduced to Becca by friend Ted Benito) and her own library system she developed in the Philippines that benefit children. “I have always leaned towards advocacies for children,” explains Becca. “CHLA is a true friend to children and their health care needs.  They rely on the generosity of philanthropists to support patient care and as well do research that could positively impact all children today and in the future.  In the Philippines, God opened avenues that allowed me to establish four childrens’ libraries to date.  All of these are located in financially depressed areas.  It was my dream but must confess that I did not do it alone.  It is a humble but successful effort.  I believe any child – given equal educational opportunities – can better or even surpass the successes of those who have been given an easier lot in life.”

As special guests for the evening, Becca will welcome the Philippine Chamber Singers (PCS), the chorale ensemble under the direction of Gelo Francisco. “I love them;  I love their immense talents individually and as a whole and, I love the varied song styles they tackle,” said Becca.  “I love hearing the coming together of musical chords.  I saw PCS perform at the Disney Concert Hall last year and thought…’gosh I’d like to harmonize with that talented group!’”

The veteran performer, who got her start in Manila in television and in musical theater, will also give a musical nod to those genres as part of the evening’s repertoire.  “There’s a big difference between a concert, musical theater and television.   Musical theatre is scripted; performing in a musical allows me to sing but it is as a fictitious character,” says Becca.  “It is similar with television.  I hosted several of my own TV shows in Manila, but in the end, it is also scripted in a way as to please a specifically themed hour that involves guests, dancers, interviews, etc.   A solo concert is freeing.   I get to choose songs that could be random, funny, crazy – a mash up of musical styles and it is my raw heart that is offered to the audience.”

Celebrating 3 Years I Season 7 Finale I Best of Blogtalk

Best of Blogtalk I Celebrating 3 Years I Season 7 Finale.

by MJ Racadio

(Quezon City, Philippines), April 25, 2017. It has been a long journey for me as a blogger then publicist. I can never imagine in my wildest dream to reached three years this week. First and foremost, I thank our almighty God for giving the life strength and knowledge and the people behind this so called little show called blogtalk, especially Mariebeth Racadio, friends and relatives and loyal followers.

From blogging in the bedroom to Miss Universe red carpet. It all started from simple blogging tips including fitness, time-management, health and wellness. Taking it to the next level by inviting known and influential guests and the rest is history. Here comes the hard part being a blogger, especially moving to Los Angeles was a big risk. Luckily, I was able to connect with the right people and of course fellow media/ press people, they either hate or love you. The first two years was always a challenge because people may look at you weird, when I say I’m a blogger/publicist. After the Hollywood experienced, I got stronger and wiser in choosing friends and what not to say.

Moving to the Philippines was sort of icing on the cake, it seems like never left the United States. I have yet to become a segment producer for Eagle Broadcasting Corporation, entertainment reporter and morning show host of ‘Pambansang Almusal’ oh boy, I have to worked double time from waking-up 5AM to evening for Eagle News International Showbiz segment. As entertainment reporter, was able to cover Selena Gomez to 21st French Film Festival. One of the most unforgettable interviews were Jaclyn Jose, Asia Pop Comicon, Ambassadors from other countries including France, Japan, South Korea, Brazil and Netherlands.

Early January, the most famous DJ in the world David Guetta had a successful concert in the Metro, plus I have watched and reviewed a Hollywood Film ‘Sleepless’ starring Jamie Foxx, the movie (Story, Cinematography, Acting were superb) was a suspense thriller so I loved it.  Here is my story for Miss Universe, first of all, I asked a friend from media how to apply for credential, his name is Jude Cartalaba, thankfully he directed me to Chavit Singson’s publicist so she sent the link where you can apply for Miss Universe. After a week, Miss Universe Organization approved Blogtalk to cover the live and pocket of events of Miss Universe. I still could not believed that it did not sink in until now, when people found out that I was one of the official media/bloggers of Miss Universe, people raised eyebrows and say “OMG! you are famous now”. Finally, it all boils down to hard-work, perseverance, be grounded and do not give-up on your dreams. In addition, you should know your purpose and be nice to people you meet and you will never know they can jump-start that dream of yours.

#BestofBlogtalk It will be uploaded starting April 23, 2017 a month-long celebration

From Anne Curtis (Filipino Superstar) to Jessica Sanchez (American Idol Runner-up).
