One of the most versatile and cosmopolitan saxophonist in pop, soul and contemporary jazz for over 35 years, Michael Paulo is bringing jazz to Los Angeles with the 1st Annual Asian Heritage Jazz Festival presented by Apaulo Music Productions, featuring some of the most renown Asian Jazz Artists in America, who have made inroads on a national and global scale.

According to Paulo: ” With my lifelong passion for Jazz, I want to host an event unlike any other that focuses on the Asian Culture embracing an American Art form, Jazz. As America is a melting pot of cultures it is important in the assimilation of those cultures to embrace things that are uniquely American. It is through this that we can become a part of the mainstream culture. Also in most instances Asian Americans aren’t readily associated with Jazz. The festival aims to change that perception by featuring as many of the best Asian jazz performers here that we can assemble.  We will have the biggest line up of Asian Jazz artists ever in the US.”

Featured artists: Saxophonist Jeff Kashiwa, Koto June Kuramoto, Vocalist Pauline Wilson, Saxman Michael Paulo, Keyboardist Ming Freeman, Korean Saxman Danny Jung, Piano Legend Rene Paulo, Bassist Benny Rietveld, Vocalist Kemeya Seward, Saxophonist Ner de Leon, Bassist David Inamine , Guitarist Fred Schreuders and Yu Ooka, arranger /composer Derek Nakamoto, Pianist Boy Katindig, Saxophonist Justin Klunk  and more!  Rob Fukuzaki, the weekday sports anchor for ABC7 Eyewitness News team in Los Angeles and host of the post-game show Sports Zone will serve as the festival emcee.

This festival will showcase the achievements of these artists, as well as recognize an impressive roster of Asian American musicians, who have contributed their talents to this original American art form. Jazz has become increasingly popular in Asia with The Java Jazz festival in Jakarta, Indonesia, now the largest jazz festival in the world. It is time to highlight and promote our local artists in the United States.

Paulo continues:  “We can also generate opportunities for young up-and-coming talent to gain exposure, play and be inspired by the veteran performers who have had international success.  This is what makes us different than the many other jazz festival events in Southern California. I am committed to its success and very excited to launch this event.”

The festival provides a platform to promote and nurture younger artists who deserve wider recognition, but are unable to break into the mainstream world of major jazz festivals.

The festival will also support the launch of a music scholarship fund to provide opportunities to further insure the future of the Asian culture in embracing this iconic American art form.

The Festival will be held at the Japanese American Cultural and Community Center on an outdoor main stage, it is one of the largest ethnic arts and cultural centers of its kind in the United States.

“TOGETHER WE CAN!”

IN CELEBRATION OF BANTAY BATA 163’S 18TH YEAR ANNIVERSARY

Paying tribute to the hard word and achievements of
GINA LOPEZ
Lifetime

Achievement, Excellence in Community Service

Dear Friends,
ABOUT BANTAY BATA 163
Back in February 14, 1997, Miss Gina Lopez of ABS-CBN Network Philippines, started Bantay Bata 163 (in English, Child Watch 163) as a local emergency go to and rescue hotline-operation in Manila, Philippines. 18 years after, Bantay Bata 163 has expanded their operations to Cebu, Davao, Zamboanga, Bicol, Negro Oriental, Iloilo, Pangasinan, Laguna and General Santos City. And with the help of the nation, Bantay Bata 163 was able to further expand its reach through a variety of ongoing projects such as:
CHILDREN’S VILLAGE
Opened in 2003, a Children’s Village to house and care for children who require further attention. Located in the outskirts of Metropolitan Manila, the Children’s Village provides health and wellness care, nutrition, education and psychological development for these disadvantaged and at-risk kids.
Former Philippine President Gloria Macapagal-Arroyo led the groundbreaking ceremonies of the Bantay Bata 163 Children’s Village March 29 in Norzagaray, Bulacan. Its construction was the collaboration of efforts by various companies and supporters who have generously donated their resources to build this paradise for the children.
CHILD TRAFFICKING
Bantay Bata 163 is also actively involved in combatting and dealing with the problems of Child Trafficking in the Philippines. This includes: The act of trading or dealing with children, including but not limited to, the buying and selling children for money, or for any other consideration, or barter; and sexual exploitation wherein, children whether male or female, who for money, profit or any other consideration or due to the coercion or influence of any adult, syndicate or group, indulge in sexual intercourse or lascivious conduct, are deemed to be children exploited in prostitution and other sexual abuse.
With that said, ABS-CBN Foundation International and N91Live would like to take this opportunity to invite you to attend the above noted Gala as one of our distinguished honoree – as we celebrate the 18th year anniversary of ABS-CBN network Bantay Bata 163 Foundation – in a unified theme, called “Together We Can”.
The 2015 Gala celebration is also to pay tribute to Ms Gina Lopez, the founder and head of the Lopez Family Foundation – The first in her family to systematically harness the technology of ABS CBN media in novel ways for social good in the Philippines for the Filipinos.
